Basic Pistol Shooting Course

Course Goal:  Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely.

Course Topics:  Gun Safety Rules, Proper Operation of Revolvers and Semi-Automatic Pistols, Ammunition Knowledge and Selection, Pistol Selection and Storage, Shooting Fundamentals, Pistol Inspection and Maintenance, Marksmanship, and Shooting Range Safety. 

Additionally, students will complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor.  Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and your NRA Certified Instructor. 

Basic CCW Course

Course Goal:  Teaches the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to carry a concealed pistol for personal defense. 

Course Topics:  Firearm Safety, Selecting a Pistol for Self-Defense, Basic Defensive Pistol Skills, Drawing from Concealment, Loading and Stoppage Remediation, Mindset, Carry Modes, and Pistol Concealment.

Additionally, students will complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor.  Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home handbook, take a CCW Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and your NRA Certified Instructor. 

* This is not a beginner level course.  Proof must be provided of completing the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course, or its equivalent, as a prerequisite.  Previous and/or current experience with pistols while serving in the military, or in a law enforcement or security capacity will suffice.

Washington House Bill 1143

With the passage of HB1143 in 2023, Washington residents are now REQUIRED to take a safety training class covering specific topics before purchasing or transferring any firearm.
